Releasing the girth. This will do a combination of three things at once. At the deepest point it lets some pressure off the adjacent ribs. It also provides the triceps with more flexibility. It also lets the ascending pectoral muscle go.

OVERVIEW OF EQUINE REMEDIAL MASSAGE

  • Applying remedial massage techniques to horses is a fantastic alternative to conventional methods for treating injuries and stress.
  • It’s an holistic approach to equine health care which has proven to be very effective in beating muscle injuries.
  • As well, deep muscle (including tendon, ligament and connective tissue) manipulations are perfect for correcting muscular problems.
  • Tension and stress in muscle groups, cause problems/restriction with extension and flexion in the horses gaits and movement.
  • Soft tissue injuries normally need various techniques used, and myofascial release which plays quite a big role in the successful treatment.
  • Hard tissue (skeletal) problems are quite often rectified with muscle, ligament and tendon release. Quite often after remedial muscle therapy you can hear the oxygen and gas release from the joint capsule that is under stress.
  • Muscular tension places a great deal of pressure on nerves and restricts blood circulation. For example, pressure on the sciatic nerves in the back end, or radial nerves in the forearm, muscles respond instantaneously to releasing nerves (branches) via muscle re-education.

In summary the benefits of Remedial Massage for horses are as follows:

  • Release of muscular stress improves blood circulation and oxygen intake.
  • Reduce toxic build up in and around joints (eg, shoulder joints and sacroiliac joint/coupling joint).
  • Decrease the level of stress in the Nervous System (very important), and keep the horse relaxed.
  • Break up of muscular adhesions to aid in a more flexible horse.
  • Deep muscle therapy will release pressure on nerve branches (mostly in hindquarter/back-end, eg. dorsal branches of sacral nerves).
  • Myofascial release will lengthen connective tissues for muscles to restore to their original memory. Improving balance.
  • Tendon and ligament therapy.
  • Benefits functioning of all body systems, especially cardiovascular (increase blood circulation and reduce blood pressure), nervous, muscular, digestive and skeletal.
  • Reduce inflammation and aid in quicker recovery of soft tissue injuries.
  • Activation of life forces within the physiological attributes of the horse.
  • Improving condition and performance of your horse.

OBJECTIVES OF TRAINING

The objectives of this 3 day intensive training course is to provide one to one training as the most enhanced learning environment for the theoretical and practical application of this training course in Remedial Massage for Horses. The training is delivered to the student under the close supervision. This includes techniques such as; deep tissue massage, myofascial release and corrective joint release.

The student will learn a series of movements to release blocked nerves in muscles, reducing stress levels to tendon and ligaments, adjusting and manipulating vertebrae and increasing blood pressure to the brain and body systems. Such skills are proven to bring amazing results in improving the condition and performance to horses.

During the course the student will develop an appreciation and insight into treating muscle injuries and/or performance related issues in horses. As a result of musculoskeletal injuries or misalignment. They will learn how muscle shortening affects movement, blood circulation, behavioural patterns and the horse’s general health and vitality. Students will be able to recognise problems caused by conformational defects, for example when a horse a long pastern  and the effects it can have in both short and long term. The Digestive system is also covered with emphasis on the affects that the horse’s diet can have on illness, injury and performance.
